LeBron James became the the youngest (32 years, 36 days) player in the NBA to score 28,000 points as he scored 32 points and dished out 11 assists in the Cavaliers win over the Knicks last night. With a basket in the second quarter he surpassed Kobe Bryant (33 years, 131 days) who was the previous record holder. LeBron is now eighth on the all-time scoring list, only a few hundred points behind Shaquille O'Neal, who has 28,596 in seventh.

If LeBron James can stay healthy and maintain his scoring he may be able to catch up to the all-time scoring leader Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Here is a breakdown of top 8 all-time scoring leaders at the moment.

NBA MVP candidate James Harden clinched the highest point total (481) and assist total (177) in the NBA for the month of January 2017. Harden also led all players in total points and assists in December 2016 (481 and 204), making him the first player since Nate "Tiny" Archibald to lead the league in points and assists in consecutive calendar months (10+ games) within a single season. Archibald led in those two categories in four consecutive months during the 1972–73 season (November, December, January, and February).

The Cleveland Cavaliers finally got their groove back with a solid win against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday night. This game was unique as Kyrie Irving was more aggressive on the assists end and LeBron with scoring. LeBron James scored 27 points with 12 assists and Kyrie Irving had 14 points and a career-high 14 assists (the most ever by a teammate of LeBron James).

The Cavaliers are the 1st team in the last 10 seasons to have multiple players with 12+ assists in multiple games:

Cleveland Cavaliers: Kyrie Irving 14 and LeBron James 12 (2017)

Golden State Warriors: Draymond Green 13 and Stephen Curry 12 (2015)

Denver Nuggets: Andre Iguodala 14 and Andre Miller 12 (2013)

Cleveland Cavaliers: LeBron James 13 and Mo Williams 12 (2010)

Michael Jordan is considered the greatest of all time (GOAT). But it could arguably be said that LeBron James accomplishments is putting him in the GOAT conversation. LeBron James just turned 32 years old on December 30, 2016. So lets look at a comparison of LBJ and MJ at the age of 31.

As you can see above, they are pretty even with LeBron edging out Jordan with most finals reached and one more regular season MVP. Now we know Jordan's overall accomplishments are way beyond what he accomplished at just age 31. But there are also other factors which are not measured simply by Championships and MVPs. Not all Championships are created equal depending on factors such as the competition level, historical significance etc.

So what are the accomplishments that put LeBron into the GOAT conversation? Here is a list.

Took the Cleveland Cavaliers to the finals by himself with no help from another all-star or superstar. This is something Michael Jordan was not able to do, he only made it to the finals when Scottie Pippen joined the bulls.

Beat better teams. LeBron beat a big three Celtics team (Pierce, Allen, Garnett), beat the Spurs a dynasty team, and beat the team with the greatest regular season record, the Golden State Warriors. Michael never faced super teams, he faced teams with mostly one Superstar.

Lead his team from a 3-1 deficit to win the finals which has never been done before. Michael never went to a game 7, but also he ever faced a 73-9 team, a team that beat Michael's 95-96 Bulls 72-10 record. He also never faced defeated a dynasty team such as the Spurs.

Lead all players on both teams in all statistic categories in a finals series (points, assists, blocks, steals, etc.)

Appear in the top 10 or 15 of three statistical categories at the end of his career barring injuries - Points, Assists and Steals. MJ is in the top 10 for two categories, points and steals.

But the items above alone may not be enough to be pass MJ, here is what LeBron has to do to become the GOAT.

Beat the 2017 Warriors team which now has 4 all-stars, including 2 superstars. A stacked team which includes 2 of the greatest shooters of all time and one of the greatest scores of all time.

Win 2 more titles back to back and be the dominant player in both finals. If LeBron wins two more titles it will put him at a total of 5 titles, but his 2016 finals victory alone is worth 2 or 3 titles.

It is no secret that Kobe Bryant modeled him game after Michael Jordan's. They shared similar scoring styles and moves. Kobe has had some amazing scoring highlights in his career up to his final game, scoring 60 points! He is of course most known for his 81 point game. But is he a better scorer than Michael Jordan? let's look at the stats.

Kobe Bryant Scoring Accolades

Seasons Played - 20

Most Points Scored Entire Career - 33,643 (Seasonal Average 1682.15)

Scoring Titles - 2

Average Points Per Game - 24.99 (12th on the list all time)

Career Field Goal Percentage - .447

Most Points Scored in a single game - 81 (Second highest behind Wilt's 100 pt game)

Games scored 60 or more points - 6

Most points scored in the playoffs - 5,640

Most points scored in the playoff game - 50 (32nd on the list)

Michael Jordan Scoring Accolades

Seasons Played - 15

Most Points Scored Entire Career - 32,292 (Seasonal Average 2152.8)

Scoring Titles - 10 (Most ever by any player)

Average Points Per Game - 30.12 (1st on the list all time)

Career Field Goal Percentage - .497

Most Points Scored in a single game - 69

Games scored 60 or more points - 5

Most points scored in the playoffs - 5,987

Most points scored in a playoff game - 63 (All time leader, double OT) (Jordan has multiple playoff scoring records and appears numerous times on the list ahead of Kobe Bryant with the threshold set at 50 points and higher)

So there you have it, the major scoring accolades broken down. And as you can see Michael Jordan has the advantage. Here are five key takeaways.

Kobe played 5 more seasons than Michael but only scored 1,392 more points for most career points scored. Michael has the higher seasonal average.

Michael was a much more consistent scorer over his career as he holds the record for most scoring titles and highest ppg avg. at 30.12.

Michael also has a better field goal shooting percentage, so he was more efficient.

While Kobe scored 81 points in a single game, which is impressive, its only 12 points more than what Michael scored, 69 points in a single game. Not much of a gap to give Kobe the edge.

Michael was more dominant scoring in the playoffs, when it really counts. He holds the record for most points ever in the playoffs and he did it against the Boston Celtics, the team with multiple hall of famers and who would win the championship that year. Michael also scored more points in the playoffs in less seasons played.

Here is a highlight video showing young Kobe playing against Michael towards the end of his career.

Devin Booker scored a career-high 39 points for the second game in a row recently and his future looks bright.

39 points versus Dallas Mavericks - Jan. 12th

39 points versus San Antonio Spurs - Jan. 14th

Booker joined LeBron James as the only players in NBA history with 4 or more 38+ point games at Devin's age (20 yrs, 76 days):

LeBron James - 5

Devin Booker - 4

Kevin Durant - 2

That's pretty good company to be in at such a young age. Devin has the potential to be a Allstar and eventually a Superstar in the NBA. Let's hope the Phoenix Suns can get some good pieces around him so he can develop.

Here are the highlight videos of Devin's two 39 point games.

We all have heard Skip Bayless say LeBron James is not a clutch player, even his haters have said this. Even a large number of non-hating NBA fans have this perception of LeBron. But what do the numbers say? Before diving into this, we must first set some foundation for determining the clutch standard. Having the clutch gene does not only mean you simply make shots at the end of the game, it also means you play big in do or die games and come through with plays that impact the game. Now there are also levels of clutchness, I believe some players are more clutch than others.

With that said, lets look at some stats.

Most Points Per Game in the 4th Quarter since 2002-03

Kobe Bryant - 7.4

LeBron James - 7.0

Kevin Durant - 6.6

Dwayne Wade - 6.3

Kyrie Irving - 6.2

Allen Iverson - 6.2

Damian Lillard - 6.2

Highest PER in the 4th Quarter/overtime

2016-17 Isaiah Thomas 41.9

LeBron now has more postseason go-ahead/game-tying FGM in final 24 sec of Q4/OT than Kobe (8 to 7). And much more efficient (19 FGA vs 28).
As you can see from the numbers above LeBron James has been clutch. So why do people have the misconception that he is not? Well the answer lies in the meltdown he had in the Heat Dallas Finals series where he did not show up. Because of the press, TV shows and bragging about winning 10 rings etc. all eyes were on him that first finals as a Heat and he did not show up. From there many decided he was not clutch. However, we know that he had clutch plays before going to the Heat and after losing in the finals he would come back even better. Although after beating the Warriors and coming back from a 3-1 deficit in the 2016 finals I believe this misconception is going away.
Russell Westbrook has been a beast this season, averaging a triple double and on the path to breaking records. However, we know Russell is also out to prove something, he definitely has a chip on his shoulder, and since Kevin Durant's departure he has even more to prove. While he is averaging a triple double, he is not always efficient, he takes very bad shots sometimes and can be erratic when it comes to crunch time, not to mention he has a lot of turnovers. But the Thunder are winning games. So whats the deal here? well, lets look at some stats.

The Thunder are now 15-3 this season when Westbrook records a triple-double.

But those wins have come mostly against sub-.500 teams.

He has 20 triple doubles so far as of January 16th, 2016.

So we see the that games won are against sub-par teams who Russell can easily take advantage of. This is not to take away anything from his skill and ability but we need to see his team win against teams that are north of .500. I truly think Westbrook's intentions are to win but I know he definitely wants to keep up his triple double average so he can break some records and win MVP.
